General
Information
Airdrie BMX is
located in
Fletcher
Park
at the north end of Airdrie, just a couple of blocks off of
Main Street. Map here.
BMX racing is s
sport for all ages. A BMX race
consists of three motos, each moto is one full all out sprinting lap of the track.
Up to 8 riders can race at one time.
Points are given to racers placing 1st to 8th.
First place is 1 point, 2nd is 2 points and so on down to
eighth place. At the end of three
motos the points are tallied and the day's placing's are determined.
The rider with the lowest points wins.
Riders are placed into racing classes according to their age and ability.
There are two different racing classes.
The first being the 20” class. This
class is for all ages racing a bike that has wheels 20 inches in diameter.
This is the most common class, the size of these bikes resembles the
street/stunt/dirt/vert bmx bikes that most people are familiar with.
Riders are
generally separated by gender and ability. Abilities
are categorized as Novice, Intermediate, Expert, Junior, and Elite. New
riders start out as novice and compete with other novices of the same age.
A rider moves up through the ability categories based on the number of
race wins that they accumulate.
The second racing class is the 24” class.
This class is for all ages racing a bike that has wheels 24 inches in
diameter. In the cruiser class
riders are separated by age and gender. For
male cruiser we race in classes of 12 years old and under, 13-14 years, 15-16
years, 17-29 years, 30-34 years, 35-39 years, and so on.
For females cruiser we race in classes of 12 years old and under, 13-18
years, and 19 years and over.
Racing Information
Your Airdrie BMX License gives you an Alberta Bicycle Association license which
also licenses you with the Canadian Cycling Association.
This license allows you to race at any CCA BMX facility in
Canada
and also gives your rider insurance which is required to ride and compete at
every track. Your membership also
includes all Airdrie BMX district races, special club events, access to our free
equipment loaner program and access to register in our coaching program.

There are opportunities to race at many different levels and competitions.
Following is a list of the different racing series that a rider may
enter.
District Racing: These are the races
at your own club and are generally held every week and during the peak race
season, twice per week. These races
are included at no cost with your Airdrie BMX membership.
You may also participate at any other Alberta Club’s district races.
Provincial Series Racing: The
series takes place on tracks throughout
Alberta
, there are usually 6 races and one Grand Final Race.
Racers must compete in at least 3 events plus the Final to qualify for
the year end awards. Racers that
qualify for a year end award will be awarded a Provincial Ranking # and a
Provincial “P” number plate. The
Provincial Series is a series open to all with a Canadian Cycling Association
license but only
Alberta
residents may qualify for year end awards.
Entrance fees and travelling expenses are the responsibility of the
racer. Any and all Airdrie BMX
members are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Canadian Western National Series: This series is held throughout the year on tracks in
Western Canada
. There are usually 8-10 races and
one Grand Final race. Racers must
compete in five races plus the final to qualify for the year end awards and
receive a Canadian Western National ranking and a Canadian “C” number plate.
The Western Series is a series open to all with a Canadian Cycling
Association license but only Western Canadian residents may qualify for year end
awards. Entrance fees and travelling
expenses are the responsibility of the racer.
Any and all Airdrie BMX members are welcome and encouraged to

Canadian National Championships: This is a one day age group race that can be held at any track
in
Canada
. It is the highest ranking plate
that a Canadian rider can be awarded, except for a World Championship Plate.
The Canadian National Championship is an open race, all licensed Canadian
riders may participate. Entrance
fees and travelling expenses are the responsibility of the racer.

and Gloves are available to borrow through the Loaner Equipment Program.
