DISTRICT RACING

The district race season runs from May to September each year. Races are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  Registration can be done via text all day until 6pm or at the track from 5:30pm until 6:15pm.  Gates open at 5:30pm with open track until 6:30pm. Strider racing takes place from 6:45-7:00pm and racing starts at 7:00pm.

There is no charge for any member of a recognized Alberta BMX club that holds a provincial BMX racing license to participate. Similarly General Membership holders at Airdrie BMX can participate though these members are ineligible for ability upgrades and district points.

Independent riders (those not affiliated with a club) must still hold a valid racing license but will be required to pay a $20 per day fee to participate in racing.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS SERIES

The clubs in Airdrie's district (Airdrie, Cochrane, Calgary, and Okotoks) each host a special race night once each season. Friday Night Lights is an excellent opportunity to get a taste of what a Provincial Cup race feels like on a slightly smaller scale.  The atmosphere is easy and sociable, and each club strives to make their race special, sometimes including swag bags for the competitors, bringing in food trucks, or raffling excellent prizes.

Each club will post information about its race on its own website and/or social media, but the excitement is so high that you'll likely hear about it at the track in the weeks prior.

PROVINCIAL CUP SERIES

All BMX racers in Alberta who hold a racing license from Alberta Bicycle Association are welcome to race in the Provincial Cup series.  Each weekend is filled with socializing, raffles, and great racing! If you have any interest at all, it's worthwhile to attend! If you participate in at least four of the Provincial races (as little as two weekends), you will be eligible to compete for a provincial ranking at the season finale Provincial Cup Championship in September and earn a new number plate for your bike.

The race schedule and registration information is posted on Alberta BMX's website, and most everyone who has attended a race will be willing to answer questions.  Ask at the track!

SPECIAL EVENTS

BMX Day in Alberta is the day when all tracks in the province open their gates to anyone wanting to try the sport.  Wear long pants, long sleeves, and closed-toe shoes.  If you have gloves, a full-face helmet, and a bike, bring those too.  The club has loaner bikes and helmets available, but they are on a first-come basis.

Watch for announcements of special training camps that provide intensive coaching for various skill levels.

Special events also include social nights hosted at local clubs, or something as casual as a wiener roast at the track. Mark the year-end wrap-up event too!

CLOSURES

Airdrie BMX values the health and safety of its riders.  When the track is unsafe or when weather conditions can affect either the track or riders directly, we may choose to close the track or end an event early.

Examples include extreme heat, heavy rain, lightning (with or without rain), and poor air quality. Environment Canada has a good guide to air quality and when local conditions reach 7 or higher, a closure is likely.

Please watch our social media channels for updates. We appreciate your understanding.
